Every purchase is a political act. Choose who you empower — wisely ☝️

In 1759, Adam Smith, the father of modern capitalism, wrote about markets as moral systems. Then in the 1980s, bankers reshaped them into machines for profit maximization. Today, well-informed buyers can take them back.

Because when buyers become conscious — markets must obey.

About me

I’m Enrique, and I started Behind Shopping because I believe business can — and must — do better. I’ve spent years trading, building and marketing products across finance, consumer goods, and tech. Along the way, I’ve seen both sides of capitalism — its power to create and its alarming capacity to deceive in pursuit of one more sale. What I’ve learned is simple: when a business forgets its human purpose, it starts to lose not just its soul, but its future.

This blog isn’t here to argue economics or politics — it’s here to reframe the conversation. Conscious capitalism isn’t idealism — it’s actually a return to Adam Smith’s original promise: markets that serve people, the planet, and purpose. Not short-term economic or political wins, but long-term value creation.A better way to grow — and to build the future our children will inherit.

I believe in informed consumers — people willing to pay a bit more for an apple to support a grower they know well, who’s doing good for their community and the planet, and more importantly, who shares their values. I grew up on a farm, watching how honest work sustains communities. Today, I’m still driven by that same belief: that capitalism, when done right, can be a force for dignity, creativity, and connection. This blog is for anyone who still believes in capitalism and wants to build a better — not just bigger — future.
